Cakes

The Alexandra ~ A perfect blend of lemon, blueberries and love.  I squeeze eight lemons along with their zest into this pretty cake.  Its refreshingly sweet...if there is such a thing!  Love was certainly in the air when I flew this cake from Boston to Ohio when my nephew Michael married the love of his life.  A perfect cake to welcome our sweet Alexandra to the family.

Marino's Cake ~ If you ever had the pleasure of dancing with my father you will know why this heavenly angel food cake is named after him.  It's almost as if you are floating on air.  Add some strawberries and whipped cream and you've  got yourself a dance~worthy dessert.

My Maria ~Somewhat nutty, a bit earthy, definitely addicting...just like the gypsy she's named after.  This shabby almond~coconut cake with rich cream cheese frosting is oh~so~sweet.  How appropriate that she's named after my soulful  friend.  She makes every moment of my life better.  Sort of like cake…

Mum's the Word ~ When I was a young girl my favorite thing in the this world was a devil dog.  Every day my mum would tuck one into my flowered lunchbox.  Mum is not and never has been a baker, which people find surprising.  But give this woman a spatula and a frying pan and she will whip up some cutlets and a frittata that will leave you begging for more.  I often refer to this cake as my "devil dog" cake...and it happens to be her all time favorite.  Moist chocolate devils food cake iced with my fluffy, old~fashioned frosting.

Jody's Birthday Cake ~ Why bake an ordinary pound cake when there is whipped cream in this world?  This very dense, decadent pound cake is a favorite of my beautiful soul sister.  My very first "bestie".  She makes me feel so happy, so loved, so blessed.  And my world is better because of her. I love to serve this cake dusted with powdered sugar, sweet strawberries and a pretty little dollop of whipped cream. Why not invite your bestie over for a slice of heaven and a moment of togetherness.

Lovebirds ~ Old fashioned, classic, sweet and bursting with tradition, just like my Paul.  When I became engaged to him I wrote my vows on the back of a napkin while on an airplane, shortly after saying goodbye to him in New Delhi, India. I called my vows "Lovebirds", a song we used to dance to at his apartment on Beacon Hill ~ I still know them by heart.  What better name for this beautiful, old fashioned white wedding cake?

Come by for Coffee ~ My quintessential coffee cake complete with walnuts, sugar and cinnamon.  So lovely on the table when I wake up in the morning ~ especially when my sisters are here.  Put the coffee on, light a candle and enjoy the moment.

Makin' Whoopie ~ Old fashioned devils food whoopie pies filled with the fluffiest, most heavenly icing, which I can tint the prettiest blush pink if you so desire.  Luscious yumminess, perfect exclamations of fun and happiness. I promise these babies will take you for a stroll down a very sweet memory lane.

The One and Only ~ This cake is dedicated to my one and only brother Marino. He makes all seven of his sisters feel loved, protected and adored.  He is the keeper of our hearts. Chocolate cake with fluffy whipped cream placed between each layer, then frosted with a velvetty rich chocolate fudge frosting. For added flair I drizzle strawberries with chocolate and place them around this cake. It is a masterpiece ~ as is my brother.

sweet nothings

Just say the word and I will bake any of my cakes into the prettiest little cakes you've ever seen.  Simply too pretty to be called an ordinary cupcake.

where the boys are...

usually right next to the cookie jar

My Luke's Classic Chocolate Chips (with our without walnuts) ~ Not your average chocolate chip cookie.  I bake these cookies with two types of chocolate.  Can be a little nutty or not, but always a crispy on the outside yet warm, soft and cozy on the inside.  Sounds like my sweet boy.

My Cole's Italian Anisette "Pillows" ~ The perfect blend of sweetness, rustic and tradition...just like my Cole!  These pillows have just the right amount of anisette, drizzled with white icing and topped off with pretty litlte nonpareils.

Flossie's ~ named after my beautiful grandmother.  I remember sitting on her washing machine (in her kitchen!) shaping these cookies with our hands.  Soft, moist knots frosted with buttercream frosting topped off with fluffy coconut.  My favorite cookie in all the land ~ named after the woman who inspired my love of all things sugar.  These beauties make frequent trips to Las Vegas as they are the preferred cookie of my sweet Jim and Lucio ~ my beautiful “brothers from another mother”.

Bocce Bites ~ Each year my family and I host a festive bocce tournament at our home. Just when I think it is getting late and people may start to leave I walk around with these cookies. Voila ~ everybody stays! Little bites of butter, walnuts and powdered sugar make these cookies simply resistible. Bah~da~bing baby!

Lemon Lovies ~ Sweet, shabby little bursts of lemon iced with my old fashioned buttercream frosting.

Whether your cake is for yourself or for someone you love and adore I promise to make it unique and perfect for your gathering. Just tell me a little bit about the occassion and I will take it from there. I will be as whimsical or as simple as you wish. It is such an honest joy for me to create something sweet that is not only pretty and festive but also a reflection of the recipient. How lucky am I?

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for visiting My Sweet Bakery.
